There were tons of new movie’s in theaters this weekend and the expected number 1 National Treasure - Book of Secrets came through as predicted bringing in an estimated $ 45.5 million. I Am Legend held strong with $34.2 million in its second week, bringing their estimated total to roughly $140 million. In a close third was Alvin and the Chipmunks with $29 million. Newcomers Charlie Wilson’s War, opening with $9.62 million, and Sweeney Todd with $9.3 million, both opened to disappointing numbers for the amount of star power the pack. P.S. I Love You opened with $6.5 million, and Enchanted almost broke the $100 million mark bringing in an additional $4.15 million. Spoof film Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story only brought in roughly $4.1 million, far less than expected. The Golden compass came in ninth with almost $4 million in sales, and Juno rounded out the top 10 with $3.4 million.
With the Holidays in full swing, expect some high box office numbers for the remainder of the week. Middle America doesn’t seem to care enough about the WGA strike to boycott entertainment.
