Now that we have reached the digital age, films, music video’s and commercials can be made for a lot cheaper- but if you are producing a professional project, there is one necessity- Production Insurance. For young film makers, this can be the most expensive and most frustrating thing to acquire. So here’s a few tips… First off, if your still in college, you already have insurance and you don’t know it! All colleges with film school’s usually carry at least a million dollar insurance plan, which should satisfy the majority of vendors and locations- unless you are getting some seriously expensive equipment- which is most likely not the case. If your not a student, your insurance will vary from film to film or project to project- depending on your broker. Your insurance will be based on your budget and your content- but always keep in mind, in most cases the fee is negotiable. If you would like more info about production insurance, then click HERE.
The first time i ever bought production insurance was for the LB Shortbus “California Grace” music video. We only had a total budget of $1,000 dollars, and our insurance cost $250!! One fourth our budget- but without it we would have never been able to rent the lighting equipment. So check it out below, let me know how you think our production team did with such a low budget….

Very surprising!!!!! Great Video for a $10,000 budget and you said you only did it for $1,000?! Crazy!!!! Who Directed it????? Great advice!!!! Are you like a producer or something?
