Producing 101

September 12th, 2007 · No Comments

When i first started this blog a few weeks back, i promised to bring you the readers a few things: first, my behind the scenes perspective from feature films, music video’s, photography shoots and celebrity lifestyles- and second, a helpful guide for other young filmmakers, photographers, directors, coordinators, etc- but especially producers.

So… i will try to cover as many different parts of the producing process, but if you have any suggestions please feel free to let me know.

Today i want to focus on the first step of being a producer- finding what your passionate about! If you love horror films, you should think about out your favorite horror films- then hunt for a script, book, comic book, or short story that you would like to produce. Or, write your own. You have to always remember, if your not passionate about your project- how will you be able to make countless other people become passionate about it? You will need a lot of people to help make your project, all of which need to be just as excited about it as you.

The first feature film i produced was Automaton Transfusion, which was shot for roughly $50k . After months and months of shopping different studio’s and distribution companies, it was eventually purchased by the Weinstein Company. Check out the trailer below….
